About the distillery
Hood River Distillers is one of the oldest and largest privately-held spirits producers in the western United States — and the Hood River, Oregon operation responsible for Pendleton Whisky, the Canadian-style whiskey brand whose name recognition through the western American rodeo and country-music tourism economy may be the single largest brand presence of any Pacific Northwest distillery. Founded in 1934 — just after Prohibition's repeal — Hood River Distillers operates production at the Hood River, Oregon facility on the Columbia River Gorge, roughly an hour east of Portland along Interstate 84 in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area.
The Pendleton Whisky brand identity is the company's editorial centerpiece. Pendleton (named for the Pendleton Round-Up, the historic eastern Oregon rodeo and one of the largest professional rodeo events in the United States) launched as a Canadian-style whiskey in the early 2000s and built its market presence almost entirely through partnerships with the broader western American rodeo, country music, and ranch-culture tourism economy. The brand has been an Official Whisky of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association for over two decades, and Pendleton sponsorships across the Western American sporting and entertainment economy give the brand exceptional name recognition in markets and demographic segments that most craft American whiskey producers don't reach.
