About the distillery
Ranger Creek Brewing & Distilling is the San Antonio, Texas operation that may be the most editorially distinct hybrid craft-beverage business model in the entire American craft spirits industry: a self-described "brewstillery" that combines a full-scale craft brewery and a craft whiskey distillery into a single integrated operation, with the brewing side feeding fermented wort directly into the distilling side for some of the most genuinely process-integrated craft American whiskey production in the country. Founded in 2010 by Mark McDavid, Dennis Rylander, and TJ Miller in San Antonio (the operation occupies a converted industrial space at 4834 Whirlwind Drive in the city's northeastern industrial corridor), Ranger Creek launched as both a brewery and a distillery from day one — an operational structure that essentially no other major craft producer has attempted at meaningful scale.
The brewstillery model is the brand's strategic foundation. Most craft whiskey distilleries source neutral grain spirit or distill from a simple grain mash; most craft breweries focus exclusively on beer production. Ranger Creek brews actual craft beer (the brewery side produces a full range of regional Texas-distributed craft beer brands), then takes specific brewer's worts and runs them through the distillery side to produce whiskey distilled from genuinely complete pre-fermentation flavor profiles.
