Yellow Rose Distilling is the Houston, Texas craft whiskey operation founded in 2010 by Ryan Baird and a small founding team — and Houston's first legal post-Prohibition distillery, predating the broader Texas craft distilling boom by several years. Located at 1224 Spring Street in Houston's Heights neighborhood (the converted-industrial-warehouse district that's become one of the most concentrated craft-food-and-beverage zones in the city), Yellow Rose occupies a working production facility that combines the distillery floor with an on-site tasting room and cocktail bar.
The Yellow Rose name references the Yellow Rose of Texas folk song — one of the most iconic Texas cultural symbols, dating to the 1830s era of the Texas Revolution and the early Republic of Texas — and the brand's editorial identity throughout pulls visually and culturally from that broader Texas-heritage framing. The 2010 founding date placed Yellow Rose among the small handful of Texas distilleries operating before the modern craft Texas distilling boom that accelerated in the mid-2010s, and the brand has benefited from being a founding-era reference point for what Houston-area craft whiskey production can look like.
