Golden Moon Distillery is the Golden, Colorado craft distillery founded in 2008 by Stephen Gould — and one of the most editorially significant historical-revival operations in modern American craft spirits, with a brand identity built almost entirely around the painstaking recreation of pre-Prohibition spirit categories that had effectively disappeared from American shelves by the mid-20th century. Located in downtown Golden (a foothills town directly west of Denver, best known as the home of Coors Brewing) at 1111 Miners Alley, Golden Moon occupies a small storefront-and-production space in Golden's historic Main Street commercial district that's part working distillery, part small-batch tasting room.

The Stephen Gould production philosophy is distinct from the broader American craft distilling scene. Where most modern craft distillers focus on bourbon, rye, and the standard American whiskey categories, Gould has spent two decades resurrecting forgotten pre-Prohibition liqueur, gin, and amaro categories using period-accurate botanical recipes, traditional Mediterranean and European distillation techniques, and historical reference materials Gould has personally collected and translated. The result is a product range that drinks closer to a 19th-century European apothecary's portfolio than to anything in mainstream American craft spirits.

The flagship product range covers Golden Moon Gin (a juniper-forward London Dry-style gin built around 12 botanicals), Golden Moon Genevieve Genever (one of the only American-distilled genevers — the Dutch malt-wine-based gin precursor that was the dominant gin style in the 18th and 19th centuries before being almost entirely replaced by London Dry style), Golden Moon Apothecary Bitters (a small but acclaimed line of cocktail bitters), Golden Moon Crème de Violette, Golden Moon Crème de Menthe, and an extensive line of liqueurs and amari that anchor the brand's cocktail-program distribution. The Golden Moon Speakeasy program — limited cocktail-and-tasting events held at the on-site Speakeasy bar adjacent to the distillery — became a cult attraction for Denver-area cocktail enthusiasts before broader Golden tourism caught on.

The Miners Alley visitor experience is one of the most genuinely small-craft stops in the Front Range region. Tours are intimate, often led by Gould directly or by a small core team member, and walk through the working distillery floor (the pot stills, the maceration tanks, and the botanical preparation area), the on-site cellar, and the Golden Moon Speakeasy tasting room. The location's proximity to Coors Brewing, the Colorado School of Mines campus, and the broader Golden historic district makes it a natural pairing with a Golden day trip out of Denver — and an essential stop for anyone interested in the resurrection of pre-Prohibition American spirit categories that has been Stephen Gould's life work.
