Pennington Distilling Company

Pennington Distilling Company is the Nashville-based family operation that's quietly become one of the most well-respected craft Tennessee whiskey producers of the modern era — and the home of the Davidson Reserve line, named for Davidson County (the county that contains Nashville) and built as Pennington's flagship Tennessee whiskey program. Founded in 2011 by husband-and-wife team Jeff and Jenny Pennington in Nashville's Sylvan Park neighborhood, the distillery sits in a converted industrial building at 900 44th Avenue North, on the west side of Nashville roughly 15 minutes from downtown.

The Pennington operation started as a small-batch vodka and rum producer (Pickers Vodka, Walton's Finest Tennessee Rum) before transitioning into the Tennessee whiskey production that's become the company's strategic focus. The Davidson Reserve line covers Tennessee Straight Whiskey (charcoal-mellowed per the Tennessee whiskey standard), Single Barrel Tennessee Whiskey, the four-grain Tennessee Whiskey, and Genesis Tennessee Whiskey (the bottled-in-bond expression). The four-grain mash bill is the technical differentiator — adding malted wheat to the standard corn-rye-malted barley recipe produces a softer, more dessert-like flavor profile than the standard Tennessee whiskey character.

The Pickers Vodka brand has become the volume-driver for the operation — Tennessee's #1 craft vodka by volume according to category data, with a strong restaurant and bar presence throughout the Southeast. The Walton's Finest Tennessee Rum uses Louisiana molasses aged in used Pennington whiskey barrels, and the small Crusoe Single Cask Rum program produces single-barrel rum bottlings that have built a quiet following among rum specialists.

The Sylvan Park visitor experience is run as a working production tour rather than a polished tourist program — visitors see the actual production floor, fermenters, stills, and bottling line in active operation, with tastings that include the full Pennington range across whiskey, vodka, and rum. Jeff Pennington often leads tours personally, and the on-site cocktail bar program treats the Pennington range as the working palette for serious mixology rather than just the standard tasting setup. The location's proximity to downtown Nashville and the Sylvan Park residential restaurant scene makes it a natural addition to a Nashville craft-spirits day pairing with Corsair, Belle Meade / Nelson's Green Brier, and the broader Nashville bar program.
