Standard Wormwood Distillery is the Brooklyn, New York craft operation built around one of the most editorially specific category commitments in American craft spirits: a near-exclusive focus on absinthe production in the traditional Pontarlier and Pernod-era French style. Located in the Industry City complex in Brooklyn's Sunset Park neighborhood (a converted industrial warehouse district that's become one of the most active craft-food-and-beverage and small-manufacturing zones in NYC), Standard Wormwood occupies a working distillery space that combines the production floor with an on-site tasting room and bar program.

Absinthe production is a deliberately complicated business. The category was legally banned in the United States from 1912 until 2007 (over the toxic-thujone-content concerns that turned out to be substantially overstated by Prohibition-era temperance advocates), and even after legalization the production category remains relatively small in the US — fewer than 20 American distilleries produce absinthe at commercial scale, and most of those treat it as a side product alongside their main whiskey or gin programs. Standard Wormwood, by contrast, treats absinthe as its core production category: the brand identity, the still configuration, and the editorial focus all built around the traditional Pernod-era recipe with wormwood (Artemisia absinthium), green anise, fennel, and the secondary botanical layer that defines the classical Pontarlier French absinthe profile.

The product range covers Standard Wormwood Absinthe Verte (the flagship — produced in the traditional French style with full louche from the addition of cold water), Standard Wormwood Absinthe Blanche (the colorless aged-on-anise variant), Standard Wormwood Aperitif (a lower-proof aperitif spin on the absinthe base for cocktail-program use), and a range of seasonal and limited bottlings that include botanical-experimentation absinthe variants and the occasional non-absinthe spirit release. The cocktail-program orientation is integral to the brand's distribution strategy — Standard Wormwood is one of the most-poured American craft absinthes in NYC's serious-cocktail-bar scene, with the brand's absinthe appearing in the cocktail programs of essentially every Manhattan cocktail-bar destination with an absinthe-forward menu.

The Sunset Park Industry City visitor experience runs through the working distillery floor and the on-site tasting room and bar — one of the few American craft distillery bars where absinthe is the focus rather than the curiosity, with traditional absinthe service (cold water dripped over a sugar cube on a slotted absinthe spoon) and modern absinthe cocktail builds. For NYC visitors who want to understand a craft spirits category most American distilleries treat as an afterthought, Standard Wormwood is the rare focused absinthe destination in the entire country.
