Guyana's El Dorado 15 is one of the most awarded rums on earth, and it is easy to taste why: it is drawn from the last operating heritage wooden stills in the world — the Enmore wooden Coffey still, the Port Mourant double wooden pot still — equipment so historic it is effectively irreplaceable. Blended from rums aged at least fifteen tropical years, it is Demerara richness turned up to full volume.
The nose is a dessert trolley: molasses, brown sugar, toffee, dried fig, raisin, coffee, and oak. It is deep, dark, and genuinely gorgeous to smell.
On the palate — and an honest word
The palate is thick and lush: molasses, burnt sugar, dark chocolate, dried fruit, and espresso. It is decadent. It is also, unmistakably, sweetened — El Dorado 15 carries a significant sugar dosage, which is why it goes down so easily and why rum purists grumble.
