This is pure pot-still Jamaican rum bottled at 57% ABV — Navy strength — and built entirely from high-ester Wedderburn and Plummer marks, the funkiest styles the island makes. Bottled by Haus Alpenz to a historic London blending recipe, it is about as close as an affordable bottle gets to raw, undiluted Jamaica.
Pour it and the room knows. The nose is an ester explosion: overripe banana, pineapple, molasses, varnish, and the glorious funk rum geeks call hogo. If Appleton 12 is Jamaica in a blazer, Smith & Cross is Jamaica barefoot at the beach bonfire.
On the palate
At 114 proof this is massive and oily. Banana, burnt sugar, dark fruit, and molasses arrive with real heat — a few drops of water tame it and unlock even more fruit.
